Hallway Near Library
<The first step in Caleb's moral downfall? Abusing his rights as a prefect. Specifically he'd gained access to a fellow student's records for his
own purposes. Not that he couldn't have uncovered the information without having to go through the process of tracking someone's schedule in paperwork
as someone in Gryffindor was bound to know the area in which Kennedy would be around this time, but the less people involved the better.>
<Caleb was hefting a heavy load of books, straining his arms to keep them all in place. He needed the whole thing to look realistic which involved
some strain on his part for the moment.>
<What was Caleb's master plan? At the moment, step A involved waiting for Kennedy to get near him and then fumble purposely, dropping the books in
the mostly empty hallway. Hopefully Kennedy would take the bait and attempt to help him. If that didn't work then Caleb feared his mission would be a
lot harder to accomplish.>

Blast. <It didn’t take long for him to catch sight of the tall, lanky youth in question, all awkwardness and sincerity and expression.
Angular, boyish features were currently shadowed by a rather glum look, his brows drawn together as he looked over a piece of paper, adjusting the
strap of his third-hand bag over his shoulder.>
<Hazel eyes drifted further down the page, and he all but stopped with the second utterance.> Oh, bullocks. <A quiet whine of pain
was audible as he hastily folded it back up and tucked it into his overflowing bag, his face twisted with a look of anguish. Bottom lip protruding
momentarily, he sucked in a shuddering breath, his jaw trembling a little as he tried to square up his courage to make it down the hallway.>
Just make it to the door, Kenners. You can do it. Just make it to the door before losing your lunch, yeah? <Murmuring under his breath, there was a
good chance that Caleb probably knew Kennedy’s reputation for being something of a soft heart and compulsively helpful, even if he was ass at
everything else. So, it wasn’t much of a surprise when the books fell that he came rushing over, putting his own things down to crouch down and help
him pick things up, keeping his back to the passing students to create something of a barrier. With how many times he’d had schoolwork trampled, he
could sympathize with Caleb’s plight, giving him a broad, affecting smile from beneath the stringy hair.>
Hey. Uh, sorry. I just thought that you, you know, might need some help? <He’d extend a few of his books back to him, the smile bordering on
downright infectious. Goofy, sure, but there was no doubt that Caleb was dealing with the genuine article when it came to Kennedy.>

<Caleb had never had extended experience with lying, but he found that it was coming more and more easily if he could convince himself that what he
was doing was the truth. It also helped that he didn't consider the repercussions or the bad mojo from the whole thing. Just believe in your own
self-righteousness and everything would be fine.>
<He shook his head as he began scrambling to get all his books back together, accepting Kennedy's help eagerly. He came off as embarrassed, a
slight hint of pink spreading along the edges of his cheeks.>
Thanks, I appreciate it.
<Once everything was stacked back in order and Caleb was standing he looked around once before giving Kennedy his attention again.>
Kennedy, right? We're in the same year, same house, and it doesn't seem like we've ever really gotten to know each other. I guess with everything
that's been going on...
<He let that trail off. Everyone knew what was going on outside the walls of Hogwarts and didn't need to be reminded of just how depressing it
was.>
People get distracted I guess.

Oh…yeah. I mean, for sure. <Kennedy gave an empathic nod, his brow knitting. No, he wasn’t so lost as to miss his meaning, but as sure as sunshine,
that effervescent smile broke free again. He sniffed once, trying to keep his nose from dripping. Seasonal allergies weren’t just annoying, they were
embarrassing.>
<And the paper he’d been fretting over? Now, it had been all but forgotten.> Well, I think I’m probably a little more distracted…not by
important things, though. <The scrawny youth added hastily, a brief flash of worry and embarrassment surfacing. A duck of his head and a quick tuck
of hair behind his ear, and his smile had turned sheepish. This kid was a Gryffindor? Sometimes, it was hard to believe.> You know, with forgetting
things and getting lost most of the time. But you’re right. I’m Kennedy.
<He offered his hand to him with all the impulsivity of a child, the grin broad and endearingly crooked.> It’s nice to meet you.
