As the son of one of the foremost experts in international magical law and a veteran Unspeakable at the Department of Mysteries, August Winstrom had academics in his blood.
Precocious, bright, and creative, the shy little slip of a boy showed magical talent at an early age, and was a shoe-in for Ravenclaw when his time beneath the Sorting Hat came.
Dealing with people had never been his strong point, and so he threw himself into his studies with great effect. Even amongst his fellow Ravenclaws, he was considered a geek- nose always in a book, rarely saying anything that didn't have to do with classwork or one of his pet projects.
Things changed at the onset of his fourth year of schooling. He had sprouted up like a weed over the summer- still slim and small, but not quite so noticeably. He'd also had an essay ("Principles of Quiddity and Their Impact on Transfiguration") published in "Transfiguration Today". Sure, it was geeky fame, but it was fame nonetheless.
Several crushes on more popular and extroverted boys went untended as he applied himself to schoolwork. His hard work and natural aptitude paid off in the form of O's in every subject he'd sat the test for, and when he enrolled in NEWT courses, it was obvious that he intended to follow in his mother's footsteps as a researcher.
He juggles a strenuous schedule with his next paper- a study on mind-altering magic. He has managed to obtain some Occlumency training for the sake of perspective, but can't quite bring himself to look into such subjects as Legilimency or the Imperius Curse, despite the allure. |
